Chiropractic Adjustment

A chiropractic adjustment is what Dr. Arpin uses that most people think about when they think of a what a Chiropractor does! It is the “cracks and pops” of the profession which is actually called cavitations. Adjustments are comprised of many different techniques including: Diversified, Flexion Distraction, Drop Technique and Activator!

Diversified - This is the HVLA (High Velocity, Low Amplitude) adjustment that people commonly think of when they think about adjustments. It often involves cavitation and should be painless!

Flexion Distraction - a manual traction technique for the lower back (lumbar spine). It treats lower back pain (lumbago), disc injuries, etc. Gentle yet effective! Safe to be done post surgically, including lumbar fusion surgery.

Drop Technique - This is a gentle technique with the goal of gaining movement. The table pops up underneath you, and then when the adjustment is performed, the piece simultaneously drops so that there is less intensity to the patient during the adjustment.

Activator - This technique uses a hand-held tool to gently adjust joints. I describe it as a “jack hammer” (but far less aggressive) that I am in control of; I also call it “the clicky tool”. This technique is used with individuals who are post-surgical, those who don’t like the cavitation (popping) sound, or for individuals who need/prefer a more gentle technique (i.e. low bone density, people who may have a hard time relaxing, some children, etc.)
